# [Redesigned General Analytics: More Flexible Ways to Break Down Case Data](https://ethicontrol.com/en/blog/redesigned-general-analytics)

General Analytics has always been designed to answer a simple question: **what is happening across your case-management data right now?**

But as reporting needs become more complex, a fixed chart can only take you so far.

Sometimes you do not just want to know how many cases belong to each category. You want to know which channels are driving reports in each region. Or how priorities are distributed between investigators. Or which statuses dominate within different organisational units.

The redesigned **General Analytics** makes those questions much easier to answer directly inside Ethicontrol.

The previous pie-chart view has been replaced with a structured breakdown table, and users can now combine two analytical dimensions to build more detailed views of the same case data.

## What changed in General Analytics

The biggest change is the move from a predefined visual breakdown to a **configurable table**.

Previously, General Analytics provided a more fixed view of case distribution.

The redesigned version lets you decide how the data should be organised.

You can now select:

- a **parent dimension** for the main breakdown;
- an optional **child dimension** for additional detail.

This turns General Analytics from a predefined overview into a more flexible exploration tool.

### Want to learn how to use the redesigned General Analytics?

See how to select parent and child dimensions, apply filters, and build different breakdowns in our Help Center.

## A new two-level breakdown

The new table supports two levels of analysis.

The **parent dimension** defines the main rows of the report.

The **child dimension** breaks each of those rows down further.

For example:

**Region → Channel -** shows the reporting channels used within each region.

Or:

**Assignee → Priority -** shows how case priorities are distributed across investigators or Case Managers.

Another view might be:

**Unit → Status -** to understand how cases are progressing within different organisational areas.

Parent rows are visually distinguished from their child values, making larger breakdowns easier to scan.

## Choose the dimensions that matter

Both the parent and child levels can be configured using the same set of case-management dimensions:

- Categories;
- Units;
- Priorities;
- Channels;
- Statuses;
- Procedures;
- Assignees;
- Regions.

This means the same General Analytics page can answer very different questions depending on what you need to investigate.

You are no longer limited to one predefined way of looking at the data.

## Practical questions you can now answer directly

The redesigned General Analytics can support questions such as:

- Which reporting channels are used most often in each region?
- How are priorities distributed across assignees?
- Which statuses are most common within each organisational unit?
- Which categories appear most often under different procedures?
- How does case distribution differ between departments?
- Which channels generate particular types of cases?

Previously, answering questions like these could require exporting case data and rebuilding the analysis elsewhere.

Now, many of these comparisons can be created directly in the platform.

## Organisational Units become more useful in analytics

Units are one of the dimensions available in the new breakdown table.

This becomes particularly useful for organisations that use Ethicontrol to reflect a larger organisational structure.

For example, you can select **Units** as the parent dimension and then compare:

- Units → Statuses;
- Units → Priorities;
- Units → Categories;
- Units → Channels.

If your organisation also uses [hierarchical organisational Units](https://ethicontrol.com/en/blog/units-structured?hsLang=en), the configured Unit structure provides additional context around the organisational data being analysed.

The important distinction is that **General Analytics does not create the hierarchy itself**. It uses the organisational data already configured in Ethicontrol.

## What this changes for compliance teams

|  |  |  |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ### More detailed analysis without exporting |  | ### Better organisational context |
| Many two-dimensional comparisons can now be created directly in Ethicontrol rather than rebuilt in spreadsheets. | | Units, regions, assignees, procedures, and other dimensions can be combined to show where patterns are occurring. |

|  |  |  |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ### Faster investigation of unusual trends |  | ### A clearer view of case distribution |
| When a broad pattern appears, users can change the breakdown to examine it from another angle without leaving the report. | | The hierarchical table format makes parent and child groups easier to compare than a single pie-chart view. |

## General Analytics becomes an exploration tool

The redesign changes the role of General Analytics. It is no longer only a place to see a high-level distribution of cases. It can now be used to explore how different parts of case data relate to each other.

Choose the cases with filters. Choose the main perspective with the parent dimension. Add another level with the child dimension. Then change the view as new questions emerge.

For compliance and investigation teams, that means less time preparing basic cross-tab analysis and more time understanding what the case data is actually showing.

### Explore your case data from more than one angle

See how Ethicontrol can help your team analyse cases across organisational units, regions, channels, priorities, statuses, and other dimensions without moving your data outside the platform.
